The Amorality of Web 2.0

by Rachel Winchester on November 17, 2009

Lewis Shepherd recently tweeted this post by Nick Carr, on the amorality of Web 2.0.    It’s even more applicable today than it was when it was written in 2005…which is the mark of good analysis and prediction, and of something we should pay attention to.

Like Web 2.0, Enterprise 2.0 is amoral.  Implementing Enterprise 2.0 won’t make your enterprise magically better.  However, I would argue that if you don’t consider implementing it, you could be missing a chance to become better at what you do.

Think through what your goals are, and which aspects of 2.0 are likely to help.  Then think through your people – will they contribute?  Will they contribute quality?  Will they edit and editorialize?

Tools are amoral, but you benefit by having the right one for the job.

At Navstar, we believe we have become a better company by implementing Enterprise 2.0 methodology and Social Media tools. We are collaborating better, faster, and more efficiently internally. At the same time, we are working with our customers to also achieve synergy through collaboration and transparency. Its not about the tools, but its about solving the problem.
